Dr. Ramakrishnan grew up in the Bay Area in a family of software engineers. She received a B.S. with Honors in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and earned her M.D. from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. After a year back in the Bay Area for her medical internship at Kaiser Permanente Oakland, she returned to the University of Pennsylvania for her ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute. She then pursued a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship in New York City at Columbia University Harkness Eye Institute/New York University/Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of New York/Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, where she received the Jason D Horowitz Surgical Fellow Teaching Award in recognition for her efforts in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents in the clinic, operating room, and academic projects.
Dr. Ramakrishnan is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists, having published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers, reviews, and book chapters.
She is thrilled to return to Northern California to provide the very best care fighting blindness for her patients and advancing the field through continued clinical research and teaching. In her free time, when she’s not gazing into patients’ eyes, she can be found gazing at the stars with her love for astrophotography, as well as hiking, traveling, and cheering on the Warriors with her family.
