Dr. Maryam Ghiassi has had an international upbringing having lived in Canada, Iran, and Japan and coming to the United States for College.

She majored in biophysics and biochemistry at Yale college and went onto stay at Yale for medical school where she realized her passion for ophthalmology. She moved to NYC and did her intern year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by her ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where she served as chief resident. She then finished her vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center, Denver.

Dr. Ghiassi’s background has instilled in her a deep appreciation for different cultures and value systems. She practices with a patient-centered approach as she believes understanding patients’ unique needs, concerns, and goals is vital in providing exceptional care.

During medical school she worked on different techniques for differentiating retinal stem cells. She has coauthored multiple papers which have been published in peer reviewed journal and presented her research findings at national meetings.

Dr. Ghiassi is a Board Certified ophthalmologist and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and American Society of Retina Specialists.

Outside of work, Dr. Ghiassi spends time with her family and Mila, their beloved furry Cavapoo. When not in clinic, you will find her traveling, hiking or snowboarding.
