Dr. Pole grew up in the South Florida sunshine and at its beaches. He kept busy playing tennis and classical piano before graduating valedictorian of his high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
He then enrolled at the University of Florida and graduated summa cum laude in biochemistry, as well as Phi Beta Kappa and an Anderson Scholar. He returned to South Florida on a merit scholarship to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to earn his medical degree and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society his third year.
Deciding to test the waters at the West Coast beaches, he completed his internship at Olive View Medical Center in Los Angeles, followed by ophthalmology residency at the Stein Eye Institute at the University of California Los Angeles. This was followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Roski Eye Institute at the University of Southern California in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Retina Vitreous Associates Medical Group.
Dr. Pole has authored and co-authored many research publications and book chapters, and has presented at several international meetings and conferences. Dr. Pole enjoys his connections with patients and providing the most up-to-date care possible. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his hematologist-oncologist wife and their dog Ridley, finding and playing music, and watching Florida sports teams.
